From: English 110 (Freshman)

This essay discussed ways and methods to enter into a “discourse”, specifically the science discourse of Biology. I talked about mentors, the full-scale immersion of saying, doing and being, and speaking/writing in the correct format. I believe I could rework this essay into working with the discourse of Political Science in which I could pull from my other studies here at the university.

From: Religion, Law and Politics (Political Science – Human Traditions) (Sophomore)

This essay is not from a Humanities class, but from a Political Science one, however it does mainly discuss different philosophies. I discuss the difference between the forgiving nature of Confucianism and the punishing nature of Legalism, their similarities and their impact on our society today. I believe that I could redo this essay in regards to new philosophies I have studied such as Marxism and that of the Humanities, in order to make a wholly new argument

From: Comparative Politics (Freshman)

This essay is again not a Humanities course, but another Political Science class, however, I believe it does have deep routes in History that could allow it to align with our purposes. In this essay I discuss the necessity of war because of cutting off conflicts at their beginning, preventing larger losses of life and enacting needed and sometimes positive change. I also discussed the problems that overpopulation, nuclear weapons, genocide and chemical warfare prevent on this issue. I believe that my studies at this university have altered my ideology and I could rework this essay to say that war should be avoided at all costs, except for specific circumstances, that would utilize knowledge from Political Science, but also from Humanities studies like History and Philosophy.

From: Human Rights and Genocide (Sophomore)

This essay is from Political Science, but is again tightly connected to that of history. In this essay I discussed past genocides, the failure to prevent or effectively combat them and the reasons why. I argued that the two best tools to prevent genocide before they occur are consversation and rememberance. I believe I could utilize these two tools, as well as maybe add others, to discuss the prevention of other issues, and take a focus on the Humanities as well.
