Individualized Error (LO6)

Learning Outcome VI

Framing Statement: For the most part, when it comes to the actual grammar and syntax to writing, I have always bee fairly proficient. I write on my own in my spare time, so I do believe that has an impact on my writing, and has helped me develop a  more proficient writing style. To further prove my point, on each of my three essays of the year I got a “4” and it was other categories like ideas and citation that I needed to work on. Grammatical errors are either present or they are not, but sentence structure and flow can be examined and shown. An example of some of my proficient sentence structure is this sentence from my introduction of my Significant Writing Project; “Interestingly, scientist Christina Haas in her work ‘Learning to Read Biology: One Student’s Rhetorical Development in College’ studies the academic career of a biology major college student she calls ‘Eliza; and her growth in her knowledge and transition into what she calls ‘Scientific Discourse’ by using concepts of Gee’s so-called Discourse”. I think this example exemplifies how I am able to work with multiple ideas and texts within the confines of one sentence, as well as be able to express the relationship between them and my intent by utilizing them. I also believe my word choice aids in my proficiency as I am careful to use the best possible choice for each and every word. I believe this strengthens my sentence flow as well as my word choice simply makes the sentence sound better to read. Overall, I do believe that my grammar and sentence flow has grown through this term as the more experience you have with writing, the stronger these concepts will become, but I do think that the growth is fairly minimal simply due to my higher starting point at the beginning of the class.
