Learning Outcome V

Below are screen shots of my Significant Writing Project, of which I have have highlighted in blue anything having to do with MLA format or citations to make it easier to find…

Framing Statement: For this fifth learning outcome I believe the best way to describe my progress as complicated success. As for the actual embedding and using of quotes, I entered college with that tool pretty well flushed out from high school, as I highlighted in my framing statement of the Recursive Process (Learning Outcome IV). When coming into college I was surprised at the severity and importance of correct formatting in academic writing and found that saying things the right way and citing them correctly was almost as important as the information you actually wrote. Because I was not prepared for this aspect from my high school experience, this took a little adapting. In my first of three papers my formatting was very lacking as I was unaware of the simple fact that if the author’s name is present in the sentence then you do not insert their last name in the parenthetical citation. I was deducted several points because I made a foolish MLA formatting error several times. However, on my second paper, my Significant Writing Project, I fixed this issue as well as other problems regarding my works cited page. Using the “Little Seagull Handbook” that was required by our professor we were able to fairly simply find the appropriate method to cite varying sources and make our work more professional and correct. I do believe that by those two simple aspects my documentation has greatly improved throughout this semester and will aid me in future writing projects and make my work even more professional.
