Journal #10 ~ Artist Book

For the Artist Book I have two stories that I have an interest in making into an artist book. The first is my COVID Fiction, “Don’t Touch Me Air!”, of which I could make some kind of chained metal box with hazard signs and such. The pages could be formatted into some type of official-looking file, to capture the feel of the secretive, locked in nature of the story. The second is the open-prompt story I recently created entitled “The Human Warning System” which is set in the 1950s and has to do with a volcano in Hawaii. For this story I wanted to create a kind of old fashioned journal. I would use a font that looks like handwriting ( like Caveat) and maybe put it on lined pages. I then would want to coffee stain the pages to look older, and I have some ideas of some tears or scratches and such, and also burning a specific corner of the pages to get in touch with the fiery implications of the story. I would use the cardboard pieces Mrs Gorman provided me in order to weave the binding of the book and then hide this with a leather backing that would encompass the whole thing – the real diary/journal feel. I also have some thoughts of putting “pictures” (or probably drawings and such) interspersed with the story where they best fit, paper clipped to the pages to get that scientist/collector/knowledge-lover vibe.

I will have to do this at least partly on my own time in my own space, but I would enjoy having some class time to work on it, as well as working in the Art building with all the wonderful supplies I am sure they have in there!
