Journal Entry #5 ~ Workshop 1 Reflection

Unfortunately, but understandably, I was not able to experience the totality of the effects of my first Workshop because my partner had not created a holistic draft yet. However, I was able to get some feedback on my own piece, and although I had to drag it out of my partner a little bit, I found it to be a helpful and insightful conversation. A new perspective always is. I was also able to flush out my ideas with Professor Spain’s comments, and bounce around a few nuances, in which I left with a new feeling about my work. My partner also needed some assistance with 1) simple technological problems, and 2) getting truly started on his story. I found the mini-role as a mentor to be inwardly illuminating, and I found enjoyment in attempting to flush out the story that I knew was trapped in the mind of my partner. I certainly had to tease it out of him on occasion, but it was there, and I was glad to aid him in his writing quest. Overall, I found this exercise helpful and insightful, and I am looking forward to participating in other workshops.
